Feeling inspired by our Fall Leaf Suncatchers, we decided to do a little fall sensory play.

Both kids had so much fun digging for the fall leaves.

And burying the fall leaves.

 Lots of golden messy goodness!

To make our fall sensory play, I mixed two boxes of cornstarch (known as cornflour in the UK) with water (in a rough ratio of 2 cups cornstarch to every 1-1.5 cups water).  You'll know you've got the right mixture if you slam your hand down on top and it feels solid, yet ribbons through your fingers when you hold it loosely.  I added some yellow and orange liquid watercolors, until I felt I had a good golden hue and then I added a ton of gold glitter (we love glitter).  If you don't have liquid watercolors, washable paint or food coloring would work as well.  The final touch was some fake fall leaves I bought at a craft store (they are fabric and were labeled as table scatter decorations).  You could just as easily use real leaves if you'd rather!  The leaves will easily sink and the kids had fun smooshing them down then lifting them up and watching them drip dry.

All in all a nice and simple way to welcome fall!
